BCC Golf Team Aims for Webber Invitational Tournament

September 19, 2012 - Fresh off a second-place finish in the season-opening Wallace State Fall Invitational in Cullman, AL, the Brevard Community College golf team now sets its sights on this weekend's Webber Warrior Invitational in Lake Wales, FL.

The tournament will be played Sunday and Monday at the Lake Wales Country Club. Twelve to 15 teams are expected to participate.

BCC head coach Jamie Howell is expecting a competitive effort for the second of six events on the fall schedule.

"The challenge will be to have the guys take care of their business and run with a good round and minimize the mistakes during any poor rounds," Howell said. "Learning to save shots is more art and determination than science."

Howell also expects improvement from all five players over the 54-hole tournament.

"Our putting and short game both need to be more efficient," Howell said. "We averaged 32.3 putts per man as a five-man team at Wallace State. That won't get it.

"This group likes to compete and they do not complain, whine and moan during play. That's not to say they don't have moments of frustration. But as long as it is kept to a moment this group will thrive in the pressure cooker of competition rather than shy away from it."

Freshman Arthur Leonard led Brevard at Wallace State, shooting 70-70-72-212 to finish third individually. His teammates Nick Maynard shot 74-73-70-217, Keith Greene 75-70-75-220, Blake Biggs 71-77-72-220 and Brett Maue 72-80-73-225.
