BCC Second After First Day of Fall Season's First Tournament
September 10, 2012 -The Brevard Community College golf team is in second place after the first day of the two-day Wallace State Fall Invitational in Cullman, AL.
BCC shot 287-290 for a 36-hole total of 577, trailing first-place Central Alabama (282-280-562) by 15 strokes on the par 72, 6,351-yard Cullman Municipal Golf Course.
The Titans were second, five strokes behind Central Alabama after Monday's first 18 holes.
Nine teams are competing.
"We left too many shots out on the course today," BCC head coach Jamie Howell said. "We struggled to get the ball into the hole. We didn't play as well in the afternoon as we did in the morning.
"I like what I see," Howell added about BCC's first outing of the six-event fall season. "I like the reaction of the guys. They're not happy with their scores but nobody's hanging their heads. I like what I see."
Arthur Leonard had the best day for BCC, shooting 70-70-140 for 14th place five strokes behind leader Baxter Reeves of Central Alabama who shot 68-67-135.
BCC's Keith Greene shot 75-70-145, Nick Maynard 74-73-147, Blake Biggs, 71-77-148 and Brett Maue 72-80-152.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes today.
BCC entered the initial tournament ranked sixth in the Golf World/Nike Golf NJCAA Division I College Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Titans finished eighth in their 10th consecutive appearance in the NJCAA national championship golf tournament last spring.
Next up for BCC is the Sept. 23-24 Webber Warrior Invitation al at Webber International in Lake Wales.
