Former Titan Golfer Receives Division II Honors
June 13, 2012, Melbourne, FL - Former Brevard Community College golfer Christian Westhorpe, a recent Florida Institute of Technology graduate, has received NCAA Division II PING All-South Region recognition for his efforts for Florida Tech.
Westhorpe, of Titusville, followed in the footsteps of his brother Kyle Westhorpe who played at BCC from 2005-2007 and Florida Tech from 2007-2009.
Christian Westhorpe played for BCC from 2008-2010.
Westhorpe concluded his two-year Florida Tech career in May as one of the program's best golfers. As a senior he set single-season school records for scoring average (73.50) and rounds of par or better (six). He finished second in highest national ranking over a season (57), lowest 36-hole score (six-under-par) and career scoring average (74.41).
This spring he placed in the top five in four tournaments. He was the runner-up at the Titan Winter Invitational and tied for third at the Florida Blue SSC Championship. Over 30 rounds, he averaged a team-best 73.50. He was named All-Sunshine State Conference Honorable Mention by the league's head coaches and sports information directors following the season.
Westhorpe helped the Panthers record their best season in their nine-year history. The team earned its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, while setting new single-season records for GolfStat national ranking (22), average score per round (295.70), rounds of par or better (six), lowest score for 36 holes (572) and lowest score for 54 holes (863). It also tied two school records, wins (two) and lowest round score (283).
For the first time under second-year head coach Chris Saltmarsh, Florida Tech was ranked 20th in the May 16 Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll.
