Women's basketball players Doyle, Aupont Receive All-Conference Honors
Feb. 27, 2014 - Eastern Florida's women's basketball team placed two players on the Florida College System Activities Association All-Southern Conference teams.
Freshman Jessica Doyle was named to the first team while freshman forward Rachelle (Rocky) Aupont was a second-team pick.
The first and second teams consist of 12 players each selected by conference coaches.
"I am very excited about Jess and Rocky receiving all conference this year," said Eastern Florida Athletic Director Jeff Carr. "They are both exciting players to watch and they add a lot to the program, I am thrilled that we have them for one more year."
Doyle, Eastern Florida's leading scorer, who started all 30 of the Titans' games, was ranked highly in both state and national statistical categories.
Her 575 points for the season were first in the FCSAA and seventh in NJCAA Division I and her 19.2 points per game were first in the state and 22nd nationally.
Her field goals made and attempted (180-456) were third in the state and 27th nationally; her three-point field goals made and attempted (92-262) were first in the state and third nationally; her free throws made and attempted (123-145) were second in the state and 25th nationally; and her free throw percentage (84.8) was first in the state and seventh nationally.
Aupont, who played in 26 games, starting 20, pulled down 113 offensive rebounds for fifth in the state and 24th nationally; her 52 defensive rebounds were third in the state and 24th nationally and her 11.1 rebounds per game were fourth in the state and 18th nationally.
Aupont was Eastern Florida's second-leading scorer at 13.7 points per game.
Eastern Florida finished the season at 7-23 overall – a four-game improvement from 2012-2013 - and 3-12 in the Southern Conference under first-year head coach Jim Grimes.
"Jess and Rocky are very deserving of the recognition they received," Grimes said. "They worked hard to adjust to the college game which everyone acknowledges is a huge step from high school.
"And to stand out in a conference as tough and competitive as the Southern Conference is a testament to the skill, desire and heart Jess and Rocky bring to the game."
