Eastern Florida Women Fall 89-62 to Miami Dade
Feb. 17, 2014 - A 25-point first-half deficit proved to be too much for the Eastern Florida women's basketball team to overcome on Monday as the Titans fell 89-62 to Miami Dade College in the Melbourne Campus gym.
Eastern Florida allowed the Sharks to score 26 unanswered points over the space of 7 minutes and 38 seconds in the first half to turn a 6-4 Titans lead into a 30-6 Miami Dade advantage.
Miami Dade kept the edge for the remaining 9:08 of the first half to lead 46-21 at the break.
And although the Titans played the visitors nearly even in the second half – allowing 43 points and scoring 41 - they could not make up ground from their early stumble.
Freshman Rachelle Aupont led Eastern Florida with 19 points and 17 rebounds for her eighth double-double in her last nine games. Classmates Jessica Doyle added 17 points and Kristina Bugarski 12.
Sophomore Vanessa Hinnant led Miami Dade with 25 points while freshman center Yamile Rodriguez added 17.
The loss dropped Eastern Florida to 5-22 overall and 2-11 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference. Miami Dade improved to 9-18 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
Next up for Eastern Florida is a match-up with conference leader St. Petersburg College (21-6 and 11-2) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Melbourne gym. Admission is free.
