Eastern Florida Women Drop Close Game at Indian River State
Jan. 18, 2014 - Eastern Florida State College's women's basketball team dropped a 59-56 decision to Indian River State College in Fort Pierce on Saturday.
The loss dropped Eastern Florida to 3-16 overall and 0-6 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference. Indian River improved to 9-9 and 5-1.
Freshman Rachelle (Rocky) Aupont led Eastern Florida with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Classmate Kristina Bugarski added 16 points.
"Rocky played great," said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes. "She pounded the glass obviously. Several big offensive rebounds. Her effort was great. We've been without sort of a post presence so she provided that.
"So close," Grimes added about the outcome. "You really don't want too many moral victories but we're about the process. I told the team after the game that the goal is to get better, every day you want to get better. We got better today. The key is building on this and getting better from here."
Indian River led 33-29 at halftime. Eastern Florida trailed 59-56 in the closing seconds but missed on a final opportunity to tie.
Eastern Florida returns home to the Melbourne Campus gym on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against conference leader Palm Beach State and hosts Broward College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25. Admission is free.
