Eastern Florida Women Fall 70-62 to Central Florida
Dec. 30, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's women's basketball team fell to 3-10 on the season on Monday, dropping a 70-62 decision to the College of Central Florida in the Melbourne Campus gym.
Central Florida improved to 9-7.
Eastern Florida trailed at halftime 37-30. The Titans took their first lead of the second half, 54-52, when freshman Rachelle Aupont sank a three-pointer with 6 minutes and 44 seconds to play. An Aupont two-pointer then gave Eastern Florida a 58-56 lead with 4:33 to play.
A basket by sophomore Kendall Hedgecock that followed two free throws by freshman Jessica Doyle gave the Titans a 62-59 lead with 3:29 to play. But those were the final Eastern Florida points as Central Florida closed the game with an 11-0 run for the victory.
Aupont led the Titans with 19 points. Doyle scored 14. Freshman R'Klyah Scott led Central Florida with 19 points. Sophomore Mhykeah Baez contributed 14 as the bigger Patriots wore the Titans down inside.
Next up for Eastern Florida is its Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference opener at 2 p.m. Saturday at Broward College (1-9) in Davie. The Titans return home to face St. Louis Community College at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6. Admission is free.
