Women's Basketball Ready for Saturday
December 12, 2013 - With final exams behind them and a re-match on Saturday with one of the two teams it has beaten this season Eastern Florida State College’s women’s basketball team is ready to go.
“Saturday should be a good test for us,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes. “We have had finals so it has been a week since we have played. I know the team is looking forward to it.”
Eastern Florida is 2-9 and dressed only seven players for its two most recent games. But Grimes continues to see improvement in practice and in games and expects a good effort against Webber International’s junior varsity at 1 p.m. Saturday in Babson Park.
Eastern Florida defeated Webber 68-52 on Nov. 12 in Melbourne.
Freshman Jessica Doyle, a 5-foot, 6-inch guard from Palm Bay, FL and Heritage High is leading the Titans in scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game which ranks her in the top 20 nationwide.
Classmate Rachelle Aupont has had a hot hand recently. Aupont, a 5-foot, 9-inch forward from Orlando, FL and Edgewater High, led Eastern Florida with 18 points on 7-for-12 from the floor, grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists in an 85-77 loss to nationally ranked Northwest Florida State College on Friday. She followed up with 18 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's 91-79 loss to Pensacola Community College.
Beyond Webber the Titans next game will be a 6 p.m. Dec. 30 home match-up against
the College of Central Florida. Admission is free.
