May 30, 2013 - Brevard Community College women's basketball coach Jim Grimes has landed a prize recruit in Kaneisha Atwater.

Atwater, of Fort Pierce, FL, Westwood High School, played in all 30 games for NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth last season, starting 12. She averaged 18.6 minutes per game, scoring an average of 6.2 points per game and averaging 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals.

The 5-foot, 7-inch Atwater earned PARADE All-America basketball recognition at Westwood where she also excelled in volleyball and track. Atwater ran the 400 meters in 1 minute, 2.17 seconds which ranks ninth all-time among Florida high school girls.

Atwater played all five positions on the court for Westwood where she led her conference in points (29.2), assists (6.2) and steals (7.9) per game as a senior and also added 7.5 rebounds. She recorded five triple-doubles in her senior season.

Grimes foresees Atwater playing guard at BCC which will begin competing as Eastern Florida State College on July 1.

"Kaneisha is an explosive player who can play multiple positions in the backcourt," Grimes said. "I am thrilled that she has chosen to become part of our program. She is the type of athlete we need to bring in to turn things around. Kaneisha will be a huge addition to our team and will immediately be looked to for leadership both on and off the floor."
