BCC Women Finish Home Season With a Loss, 92-71

February 20, 2013 - The Brevard Community College women's basketball team closed its 2012-2013 home schedule with a loss on Wednesday, falling 92-71 to Palm Beach State.

BCC fell to 3-26 overall and 1-13 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference. It plays its final game of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miami Dade College in Kendall.

Palm Beach State, locked in a battle with Indian River State for second place in the conference behind winner St. Petersburg College and a bid to the FCSAA state tournament, improved to 17-9 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

Palm Beach rallied from a slow start to lead 42-31 at halftime. BCC got to within five points, 46-41 with 17 minutes and 2 seconds to play in the game but Palm Beach used its superior strength and height inside to pull away.

Sophomore Laquandra Brazil led Palm Beach with 25 points while 6-foot, 2-inch classmate and center Alana Arias, whom BCC could not handle inside, scored 23.

Sophomore co-captain Kasie Berry led BCC with 20 points. Berry was one of six sophomores playing their final home game. Also recognized were Olivia Atwell, Ambra Martin, Briana Reeves, co-captain Shaneece Stephens and Shante' Stevenson.
