BCC Women's Basketball Hosts Miami Dade on Wednesday

February 5, 2013 - Brevard Community College's women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. game against Miami Dade College searching for an end to its 19-game losing streak.

BCC is 2-22 overall and 0-9 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference. BCC lost to Miami Dade 77-69 on Jan. 19 in Kendall after leading by 12 points with 5 minutes and 38 seconds to play.

Miami Dade is 7-17 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

BCC head coach Renee Bellamy certainly isn't raising the white flag on the season.

"Our women's team has been competitive all season, but has experienced some injuries throughout the entire season with various players," she said.

"Our ladies have worked hard and will continue to work hard; focusing their attention on getting better every day along with playing towards a win. I am proud of our ladies and the character that they have displayed through this tough season and feel that our victories will soon come."

Sophomore co-captain Kasie Berry leads BCC in scoring, averaging 8.6 points per game and in rebounding averaging 4.5 per game. Classmate Shante Stevenson leads in assists at 2.1 per game.

Sophomore co-captain and leading scorer Shaneece Stephens has missed BCC's last seven games with a knee injury.

Beyond Miami Dade are a 2 p.m. Saturday home game against Broward College at the Melbourne Campus gym, a 6 p.m. a Tuesday, Feb. 12 game at conference-leading St. Petersburg College, a 2 p.m. Feb. 16 home game against Indian River State College, a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 Sophomore Night home game against Palm Beach State College and a 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 game at Miami Dade to conclude the season.
