Lady Titans Classic Coming Friday and Saturday

December 10, 2012 - Six women's basketball games are on tap for this weekend's Lady Titans Classic at Brevard Community College's Melbourne Campus gym.

Competing are BCC's women, the College of Central Florida from Ocala, St. Petersburg Community College, ASA College from Brooklyn, Shelton State Community College of Tuscaloosa, AL and the Brevard Flames semi-pro team.

Shelton State was 11-0 heading into this week. The College of Central Florida was 3-10; St. Petersburg Community College, 5-5; ASA College, 4-1; and BCC, 2-9. The Brevard Flames are playing their first games of the season.

The College of Central Florida and ASA College start things off at 4 p.m. Friday. St. Petersburg plays the Brevard Flames at 6 p.m. and BCC meets Shelton State at 8 p.m.

On Saturday the Brevard Flames play the College of Central Florida at 1 p.m.; Shelton State plays St. Petersburg at 3 p.m. and BCC plays ASA College at 5 p.m.

BCC head coach Renee Bellamy sees a greater purpose in playing Shelton State and ASA.

"We have played some very competitive programs in the past week or two and I believe strongly that it will make us improve our team skills along with our individual skills," Bellamy said. "It is important to build a tough schedule prior to our (Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference) conference, so we can be ready during conference play."

Admission for the Classic is $5 for adults and $3 for youths 17 and under. The concession stand will be open.

The tournament is being sponsored by Panera Bread, Subway, Applebee's, Bagel Joes, Beef O'Brady's, City of Melbourne Parks and Recreation and the Suntree YMCA.

BCC wraps up the 2012 portion of its schedule with a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Dec. 28 at Hillsborough Community College.
