Chipola Bounces BCC Women, 97-47

December 6, 2012 - The Brevard Community College women's basketball team played favored Chipola College even for the first 11 minutes and 41 seconds on Thursday night, even holding a 19-15 lead.

But from the 8:19 mark of the half through the end of the game it was all Chipola as the visiting Indians stormed to a 97-47 victory.

Chipola improved to 13-1. BCC fell to 2-7, allowing 90 or more points for the third time this season and the second time in five days, previously falling 93-56 at Santa Fe College on Dec. 1.

Chipola put the game away with a 29-5 run to end the first half with a 44-24 lead. The advantage quickly ballooned to 52-24 with 17:43 to play and the Indians maintained control until the end.

Chipola did not allow any BCC players to score in double figures. Sophomore co-captain Shaneece Stephens led the Titans with nine points while sophomore Olivia Atwell and classmate Ambra Martin added eight apiece.

Things don't get any easier for BCC which faces two tough games in two days, traveling to Daytona State College for a 6 p.m. Friday game against the hosts and a noon Saturday game against Hillsborough Community College.

BCC head coach Renee Bellamy took a matter of fact approach about Thursday's game and what lies ahead.

"They need a little bit more fight," Bellamy said. "We were ahead. We were playing with them, playing good defense. All of a sudden we stopped playing good defense, started turning the ball over.

"One of the biggest things for us is consistency. We can't let up. They've just got to play. They have to be loose and just play. I'm noticing some people are playing tight or they're playing like they don't know how to play basketball when they have a lot of talent.

"They just need to take a deep breath and play basketball."
