Jim Grimes has been the head coach of the Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team since March 18, 2013. Grimes previously served as associate head coach of the College's men's basketball team for the 2012-2013.
Coach Grimes joined Eastern Florida when it was known as Brevard Community College in 2010, along with men's team head coach Jeremy Shulman and has brought a wealth of experience in the Melbourne area. As the athletic director and head coach at Covenant Christian School for eight years, Coach Grimes showed the ability to turn a program around. Playing with a varsity team that included eight freshmen, Covenant won only two games in Coach Grimes' debut season, but immediately improved to 12 wins in his second season, followed up by a 20 win season and a top-ten state ranking in his third campaign.
During his time at Covenant, the Lions won two district championships, three conference titles and appeared in five consecutive FHSAA regional tournaments from 2006-2010. Over that five-year span, Coach Grimes' team went 43-5 in district play. He was a two-time CCS Coach of the Year.
Coach Grimes played basketball at Covenant College and earned the following honors as a player:
- Coach's Award (1991)
- All-Tournament - Rock City Round Robin (1992)
- MVP - Covenant Invitational (1992)
- Offensive Most Valuable Player (1991-92)
- All-Tournament - Chicagoland Invitational (1993)
A native of Greenville, North Carolina, Coach Grimes graduated from Winthrop University, with a B.S. in Business Administration, majoring in Management.
