Three Former Titans Men's Basketball Players to Compete in NCAA Tournament
March 17, 2014 - Three former Eastern Florida State College men's basketball players — Corey Walden, D'Montre Edwards and Gary Gaskins — will participate in the NCAA tournament.
All three were coached by current head coach Jeremy Shulman when the Titans were known as Brevard Community College.
Walden plays for Eastern Kentucky, Edwards for Tennessee and Gaskins for Oklahoma State.
"March Madness is the absolute best time of the year and it doesn't get any better than the NCAA Tournament," Shulman said. "And for three former players to be going with their respective teams to the Big Dance is incredibly exciting."
Walden and No. 15 Eastern Kentucky play No. 2 Kansas at 4:10 p.m. Friday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO in the South Regional.
Edwards and Tennessee meet Iowa in a play-in game at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday in the UD Arena in Dayton, OH.
Gaskins and No. 9 Oklahoma State play No. 8 Gonzaga at 4:40 p.m. Friday at the Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in San Diego, CA in the West Regional.
Walden and Edwards graduated in 2012, Gaskins in 2013.
Walden was the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year this season and an All-OVC selection. He started all 33 regular-season games for the Colonels, leading the team in steals with 73 and free throw shooting percentage at .832. He was second in minutes played at 1,052, second in rebounds at 138, second in assists at 98, second in points scored at 466 and second in points per game at 14.1.
Edwards and Gaskins both played roles off the bench for their teams.
