Eastern Florida Men Close Regular Season With Victory to Finish at 24-6.

Feb. 22, 2014 - Its conference title already secured along with a postseason berth Eastern Florida's men's basketball team still had a goal for its regular-season finale on Saturday at Broward College in Davie: Win.

And that's just what the Titans did, beating Broward 78-73 to finish the regular season at 24-6 for the second year in a row.

Eastern Florida overcame a 39-36 halftime deficit, getting 18 points each from sophomore co-captain Torrance Rowe and freshman Demetrius McReynolds, the team's top two scorers.

"It was important that we finished conference off strong leading to the state tournament even though we didn't need the win to go," said Rowe.

"I'm very excited to play in the state tournament."

Eastern Florida finished 10-2 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference, beating Broward for the third time this season. The Titans only conference losses were to Indian River State and Miami Dade College, both of which were avenged en route to the Titans second straight conference title.

Now the focus turns to the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA tournament March 5-8 at the College of Central Florida in Ocala where the Titans will face the Suncoast Conference runner-up Polk State College in the first round.

Last season Eastern Florida (then Brevard Community College) advanced to the final of the NJCAA/FCSAA tournament losing 63-58 to eventual national champion College of Central Florida. The Titans finished the season 26-7.

This season also was a landmark for the Titans as they extended their Melbourne Campus gym winning streak to 31 games.
