Eastern Florida Men's Basketball to Recognize Six Sophomores on Saturday
Feb. 13, 2014 - Eastern Florida's men's basketball team will recognize six sophomores before Saturday's 2013-2014 home finale against Miami Dade College.
Tipoff for the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference game is 4 p.m. in the Melbourne Campus gym and admission is free.
Head coach Jeremy Shulman and his staff will honor two-year players Julian Adams, Jure Gunjina, Mike Kirkland and Ben Patrick and transfers Shaheed Davis and Torrance Rowe.
Adams, of Palm Bay, FL and Bayside High has played in 18 games this season, started 10 games and also has provided depth off the bench
Gunjina of Zagreb, Croatia and the School for Athletes is a 2013-2014 season co-captain. He is the team's second-leading rebounder at 6.4 per game and the third-leading scorer at 11 per game. As a forward he also personifies grit and toughness and creativity and a soft touch around the basket.
Kirkland of Ocala, FL and Westport High is the team's leading rebounder at 7.2 per game and the fifth-leading scorer at 10 points per game. Also Kirkland has played in all 28 games to date, starting 19. He was a force in the middle all season.
Patrick of Clearwater, FL, Dunedin High and Impact Academy is a 2013-2014 season co-captain and among national leaders in assists and assist to turnover ratio. He also is a steadying, creative leader on the floor from the point guard position.
Gunjina, Patrick and Kirkland also played major roles as freshmen as Eastern Florida (then Brevard Community College) won the Southern Conference for the first time since 2000 and advanced to the final of the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA postseason tournament, finishing 26-7. Also Adams, Gunjina, Kirkland and Patrick have been part of 48 victories to date in two seasons. The most victories over two seasons in college history is 54 from 1978-1980 under the late Kirk Stewart.
Davis of Warren, OH, Harding High and Polk State College is the team's leader in blocked shots at 1.2 per game, the third-leading rebounder at 5.5 per game and the fourth-leading scorer at 10.9 per game. Davis has played in 18 games, starting eight. Davis has signed a Letter of Intent to play at NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State.
Rowe of Atlanta, GA and Central Park Christian Academy is a 2013-2014 season co-captain and is the team's leading scorer averaging 13.5 points per game. Quick afoot and intense, Rowe started 26 games and also has been an offensive spark plug at guard and a stout defender.
