Eastern Florida Men Beat Broward in Overtime to Move to 4-0 in Conference
Jan. 22, 2014 - Eastern Florida's men's basketball team improved to 18-4 overall and 4-0 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference with a 77-73 overtime victory over host Broward College on Wednesday.
Defending champion Eastern Florida took over first place in the conference. Broward fell to 15-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Freshman Demetrius McReynolds led Eastern Florida with 18 points. Sophomores Jure Gunjina and Mike Kirkland contributed 14 and 13 points respectively.
Eastern Florida led 37-27 at halftime.
"We went up against a tough and well-coached Broward team," said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman. "And we found a way to win in a tough conference road game.
"The first 12 minutes were the best we have played defensively all year. We have to find a way to play 40 minutes that way. We didn't play well down the stretch or in overtime but made just enough plays to win."
Next up for Eastern Florida is a 2 p.m. Saturday conference re-match with Indian River State in Fort Pierce followed by a 7 p.m. Monday conference re-match at the Melbourne Campus gym with Palm Beach State.
Eastern Florida has won 27 straight games at home.
Admission to Eastern Florida home games is free.
