Titans 24-Game Home Winning Streak On The Line Wednesday Against Indian River
Jan. 7, 2014 - The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball 24-game home winning streak is at stake at 7 p.m. Wednesday as the Titans open Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference play against Indian River State College.
Eastern Florida's streak dates back to the 2011-2012 season. The Titans won 15 games in the Melbourne Campus gym in 2012-2013 — including the Southern Conference championship clincher — and have won seven games this season en route to a 13-4 record.
The Titans have scored 658 points at home this season, averaging 94 points per game while allowing 458 points or 65.4 per game.
Indian River comes into the first of 12 conference games for each of the five teams at 12-3. Beginning this season the conference champion and runner-up advance directly to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 tournament.
Eastern Florida reached the tournament final last season where it lost 63-58 to eventual national champion College of Central Florida.
Rankings wise Eastern Florida is 34th nationally in the Massey Ratings, a computer ranking system. Indian River is 45th. Daytona State College (16-2), which comes calling for a highly anticipated non-conference re-match at 4 p.m. Saturday, is ranked 25th. The Falcons defeated Eastern Florida 65-57 on Nov. 6 in Daytona Beach.
Daytona is ranked fourth in the latest FCSAA Coaches Poll. Eastern Florida is tied with Santa Fe for sixth. Indian River is eighth. Daytona also was ranked 22nd in the most recent NJCAA Division I national poll.
Admission to Eastern Florida home games is free.
