Eastern Florida Men Open With 109-56 Victory at Webber
Nov. 2, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's men's basketball team made the two-hour ride southwest to open its season against Webber International's junior varsity in Babson Park on Saturday and the trek was worth it as the Titans cruised to an easy 109-56 victory.
Sophomore Jure Gunjina led Eastern Florida with 26 points while freshman T.J. Cromer 18 and sophomore Torrance Rowe 16. Sophomore Mike Kirkland led rebounders with 8 of the Titans 44 boards.
"It feels good," Gunjina said. "I am satisfied with the win."
Cromer and freshman Jermonh Queen had seven assists each while sophomore Shaheed Davis had four blocks.
"I was proud of our guys, I thought we started the game dialed in," said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman. "We've played Webber JV every year since I've been here. We could have looked sloppy to start. We could have not had the right mentality coming in.
"Right from the get go it was one of the best starts we've ever had against Webber JV."
Eastern Florida did not allow Webber into double figures until the 7:25 mark of the first half when two Warriors free throws made the score 28-10.
The Titans led 51-30 at halftime. Webber fell to 0-4 with the defeat.
"I would love to say we played every possession which is our mantra," Shulman said. "We relaxed, we played the scoreboard a little bit. It gives me something to be upset about and go over the film about."
Things figure to get much tougher for Eastern Florida on Wednesday as it visits Daytona State College in Daytona Beach for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Titans open their home season the next night with a 7 o'clock game against Lackawanna Community College of Pennsylvania in the Melbourne Campus gym.
