Eastern Florida Men Cruise Past TAAG Academy, 80-53
Nov. 16, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's men's basketball team continued two streaks on Saturday in defeating TAAG Academy 80-53 in the Melbourne Campus gym.
The victory extended the Titans winning streak to four games and their home court winning streak believed to be 19 straight dating back to the 2011-2012 season.
Sophomore Shaheed Davis, who on Thursday signed a Letter of Intent to continue his career at NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State, led the Titans with 20 points on Saturday. Classmates Torrance Rowe and Jure Gunjina scored 13 and 12 respectively.
Eastern Florida led at halftime 40-18 against a TAAG team that dressed only six players.
"I saw some positives," Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman said. "I thought our sophomores are starting to get it together. I think you can be a really good team when your sophomores are getting it.
"I was really pleased with the lineup of Ben (Patrick), Torrance, Jure, Shaheed and Mike (Kirkland). They played with a lot of energy. I thought they dominated the game when they were in. That's something we can really build on going forward."
Eastern Florida now hits a break in its schedule with its next game on Monday, Nov. 25 when State College of Florida comes calling for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Admission is free.
"This is a great time for us, honestly," Shulman said. "This is a great opportunity. We're 5-1, we're not playing great but we're finding things to build on. This gives me a full week of practice to build and get better. It's hard to get a whole lot better when you're playing games and you have to prepare for opponents.
"Now I've got a full week of practice where we can focus on us and getting better every day."
