May 14, 2013 - Brevard Community College men's basketball player Jordan Smith on Tuesday signed to play at South Carolina State beginning next season.

Smith is the fifth BCC player from the 2012-2013 team to sign with a NCAA Division I school and the 12th BCC player to do so in the last two years.

Smith, known as JD, was a second-team Florida College System Activities Association All-Southern Conference selection as a freshman. He averaged 7.4 points per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 44.9 percent from three-point range.

Smith will have three years of eligibility at South Carolina State which is located in Orangeburg.

"We are very excited for both JD and South Carolina State," said BCC men's head coach Jeremy Shulman. "South Carolina State is getting not only a very good basketball player but also a great kid.

"We will miss JD."

Team members who earlier signed with Division I schools were sophomores Nyles Evans, Akron; Gary Gaskins, Oklahoma State; Luka Pajkovic, Morehead State; Addison Spruill, University North Carolina Wilmington.
