Tuesday Pep Rally to Send Titans Off to State Basketball Tournament
March 4, 2013 - A pep rally is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in front of the Melbourne Campus gym before the Brevard Community College men's basketball team boards it bus to Marianna for the Florida College System Activities Association/NJCAA Region 8 basketball tournament.
Fans are asked to bring motivational signs and the best sign, selected by a basketball team member, will win a $25 gift card.
A glance through tournament records shows a significant history for BCC. The Titans competed in the tournament 20 times since 1965 and won it six times between 1967 and 2000.
Now the Titans are returning to the tournament site at Chipola College for the second time in three seasons, this time as the FCSAA Southern Conference champions for the first time since 1999-2000.
BCC, 24-6, meets Santa Fe College, 20-11, in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. CST (9 p.m. EST) on Thursday. The game will be webcast live at www.psblive.com
All told, BCC won 17 Southern Conference titles from 1965 to 2000 and appeared in the national tournament three times: 1973, 1979 and 2000, the last one under head coach Don Smith.
Lean years followed the 1999-2000 campaign but BCC's fortunes changed with the arrival of head coach Jeremy Shulman. The 32-year-old Nashville native's teams have won 63 games over the last three seasons and naturally would like to add more before wrapping up 2012-2013.
