BCC Men Win a Wild One, 87-82

December 9, 2012 - Five Brevard Community College free throws in the final 25 seconds made the difference as the Titans upset Tallahassee Community College 87-82 on the final day of the Florida JUCO Shootout in Ocala on Sunday.

The free throws – two apiece by sophomore co-captain Nyles Evans and sophomore Luka Pajkovic and one from freshman Juri Gunjina - capped a wild game in which both teams established and lost big leads.

Brevard sprinted to a 14-point lead in the first half but Tallahassee clamped down and chipped away to lead by two at the half, 36-34.

The lead ballooned to 53-34 early in the second half but BCC rallied to cut the advantage to 53-51 with 11 minutes and 22 seconds remaining on a four-point play by Pajkovic.

BCC, which went on a 20-0 run, took the lead on its next possession and from there it was back and forth until the final free throws.

BCC, ranked 10th in Florida, improved to 10-3, rebounding from its worst defeat of the season, a 95-69 loss to Gulf Coast State College on Saturday. Tallahassee, ranked sixth in the state, fell to 8-4.

Pajkovic led BCC with 25 points including five three-pointers. Evans, who came off the bench, added 16, freshman Mike Kirkland had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Gunjina had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

BCC wraps up the 2012 portion of its schedule with home games at the Melbourne Campus gym at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Hillsborough Community College and 7 p.m. Thursday against TAAG Academy of Tampa. Admission is free.
