Eastern Florida and St. Petersburg Square Off in Monday's State Tournament Play-In Game
April 27, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team plays St. Petersburg College at 5 p.m. Monday at South Florida State College in Avon Park in a Florida College System Activities Association state tournament play-in game.
Eastern Florida finished 12-12 for third place in the FCSAA Southern Conference while St. Petersburg finished 14-14 for third place in the Suncoast Conference.
Eastern Florida finished 27-17 overall while St. Petersburg was 30-19.
The Eastern Florida-St. Petersburg winner advances to the state tournament in Lakeland in May as one of two third-place wild cards. Tallahassee Community College of the Panhandle Conference and Seminole State College of the Mid-Florida Conference meet to determine the other third-place wild card entry.
Eastern Florida's last trip to the state tournament came in 2001.
Teams that advanced by virtue of placing first and second in their respective conferences were Miami Dade College and Palm Beach State College of the Southern Conference; St. Johns River State College and the College of Central Florida from the Mid-Florida Conference; Chipola College and Gulf Coast State College of the Panhandle Conference; and Polk State College and State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota from the Suncoast Conference.
Palm Beach is the defending state tournament champion and went on to finish as the 2013 NJCAA Division I national runner-up.
