EFSC Baseball Tops Indian River 9-1 to Improve in Conference Race

April 16, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team, involved in a tight race to determine its postseason fate, took a big step forward on Wednesday defeating host Indian River State College 9-1 in Fort Pierce.

The victory moved Eastern Florida to 10-9 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference in second place behind Miami Dade, which is 13-5.

Palm Beach State was 10-10 heading into Wednesday while Broward College was 8-12. Indian River fell to 8-13.

The top two finishers in each of the FCSAA's four conferences move on to the state tournament. The four third-place teams hold a one-game playoff to determine the final two state tournament teams.

Eastern Florida has two games remaining against Miami Dade, 4 p.m. Friday at home on the Melbourne Campus and Saturday in Kendall; a 6 p.m. Monday make-up game against Indian River at home and then a Tuesday-Wednesday home-and-home series with Palm Beach State.

Right-hander Dulvis Borjas was masterful for the Titans again, going eight innings and striking out seven. He has allowed one run in his last 15 innings.

Indian River scratched out five hits while Eastern Florida pounded out 14. EFSC's Alessandro Lima was 3-for-5 with two doubles; Christian Diaz 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored and Austin Leeney 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
