Borjas, Schullstrom, Formby Share Student-Athlete of Week Honors
April 14, 2014 - Baseball pitchers Dulvis Borjas and Jesse Schullstrom and softball pitcher and outfielder Brooke Formby are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 13.
Borjas, a freshman right-hander from Cabimas, Venezuela and Grandview Prep, pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball against Broward College on April 11, allowing five hits, one walk and one hit batter while striking out six.
Eastern Florida won the game 9-2 to break a five-game Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference losing streak.
Schullstrom, a freshman right-hander from Melbourne, FL and Viera High School followed Borjas' effort by pitching six scoreless innings at Broward on April 12 and striking out six batters in a 1-0 Eastern Florida victory.
The triumph evened the Titans conference record at 9-9.
Eastern Florida's baseball team is 24-14 overall.
Formby, a sophomore left-hander from Jacksonville, FL and Clay High, was 4-for-8 from the plate last week for a .500 average with a triple, three runs batted in and six runs scored.
She also recorded two complete-game victories on the mound, a crucial 7-5, 8-inning triumph at then No. 2-nationally ranked Indian River State College and a 14-1 five-inning victory at Broward College.
Formby is ranked fifth nationally in triples with seven and leads the team in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, total bases and is tied for the lead in extra base hits. Pitching wise Formby has appeared in 23 games, 13 of them complete games, and has an 8-13 record and a 3.53 earned run average.
Eastern Florida is 22-21 overall and 8-4 and tied for second place in the Southern Conference with four games to play in the regular season.
