Eastern Florida Baseball Absorbs 12-1 Loss to Miami Dade
April 4, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team dropped its fourth straight Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference game on Friday, falling 12-1 to Miami Dade College at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus.
The defeat in eight innings dropped Eastern Florida to 7-8 and into third place in the conference and 21-13 overall. Conference leader Miami Dade improved to 10-4 and 22-12.
The teams play again at 1 p.m. Saturday in Melbourne. Admission is free.
"We can't play any worse," said Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Tam. "This is absolute rock bottom. If they don't make a change it's not going to change."
Three Eastern Florida pitchers allowed 17 hits, issued three walks and hit two batters, both coming in the three-run eighth inning. Titans fielders committed five errors.
Right-hander Dulvis Borjas took the loss for Eastern Florida, surrendering eight runs including a grand slam home run that made the score 7-1 in the fifth.
Miami Dade went in order at the plate in just one inning, the second.
Three Miami Dade pitchers limited Eastern Florida batters to seven hits, two apiece for Austin Leeney, Alessandro Lima and Jack Machonis and one for Christian Diaz.
