Eastern Florida Baseball Beats Palm Beach State 4-3 in Conference Game
March 11, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team beat Palm Beach State 4-3 on Tuesday in a Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference game in Lake Worth.
The victory improved the Titans record to 13-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Palm Beach fell to 15-10 and 3-2.
Palm Beach out hit the Titans 11-10 but the Titans executed when the situation demanded it. Freshman right hander Dulvis Borjas was the winning pitcher going 6 1/3 innings allowing nine hits and three runs. Sophomore righty Chayce Hubbard went 2 1/3 innings for the save.
Sophomore Jack Machonis went 4-for-4 for the Titans with two runs batted in. Freshman Christian Diaz went 2-for-4 with a run batted in while classmate Nick Capra went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
"The guys played a hard-nosed game," said Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Tam. "They executed well and made great pitches. They can win a lot of games with that type of execution.
"We just need to be more consistent and keep grinding."
The Titans and Panthers play again on Wednesday with first pitch at 5 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus. Admission is free. The Titans then travel to Kendall to play a two-game series with conference foe Miami Dade College at 4 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
