Seventh-Inning Rally Lifts Eastern Florida Baseball to Sweep
Feb. 15, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team strung together four two-out hits in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday to defeat the College of Central Florida 6-5 for a doubleheader sweep at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus.
The second game victory was the fifth straight for Eastern Florida which improved to 6-3. The Titans won the first game 7-5.
The College of Central Florida led 5-3 in the last of the seventh in the second game before J.J. Gould singled, Christian Diaz doubled and Angel Soto doubled to tie the game.
Francisco Cruz then hit a single to score Soto for the walk-off victory.
"The guys were amazing," Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Tam said.
Alec Lamrouex pitched four innings for the victory allowing one run and striking out four. Alessandro Lima went 3-for-3 with a run batted in; Diaz went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs batted in, Gould went 2-for-3 with a double and Soto 1-for-1 with a double.
In the first game Eastern Florida pitchers sophomores Jon Piriz, who went four innings for the win, and Kenton Hering scattered 10 hits while receiving offensive support from sophomore Austin Leeney and freshman Jack Machonis who had two runs batted in apiece.
Leeney went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly in the second and a two-out triple in the fifth inning while Machonis went 2-for-2 with a two-out, two-run double in the third.
Gould went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nick Capra and Diaz also had RBIs.
Next up for Eastern Florida is a 5 p.m. Monday home game against Community College of Baltimore County at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus. Admission is free.
