Eastern Florida Baseball Suffers 15-1 Defeat

Feb. 3, 2014 - Eastern Florida's baseball team allowed 12 runs in the first two innings en route to a 15-1, five-inning loss to Seminole State College on Monday at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus.

The defeat dropped Eastern Florida to 1-2 on the young season. The Titans next play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Polk State College in Winter Haven and play Seminole in Sanford at 2 p.m. Friday.

The Titans host Elev8 Academy at 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Seminole rapped out six first-inning hits en route to five runs off Eastern Florida starter freshman Dulvis Borjas and collected five hits en route to seven second-inning runs off Borjas and reliever sophomore Hector Perez.

Meanwhile four Seminole State pitchers combined to hold Eastern Florida to two hits, both singles by freshmen Luis Ciuro and Nick Capra in the fifth inning.

Eastern Florida's lone run came in the fourth when sophomore J.J. Gould's sacrifice fly scored freshman Alessandro Lima who had reached on a three-base error.

Nine Eastern Florida batters struck out, two reached on walks and one was hit by a pitch.

Seminole, playing its opening game, scored in every inning but the fifth and finished the game with 13 hits, eight for extra bases. The total included a two-run home run by designated hitter James Jean who also doubled and tripled. Seminole left only two runners on base.
