Titans Baseball Players Ranked in FCSAA 2013 Season Statistics

July 17, 2013 - Several Eastern Florida State College baseball players are listed among Florida College System Activities Association statistical leaders for the 2013 season.

Chris Gilmore and Kenton Hering – who competed as freshmen - placed highly in several pitching categories.

Sophomores shortstop Chris Dennis, first baseman Matt Harris and designated hitter David King placed in several offensive categories.

All statistics ranked the top 50 pitchers and players.

Eastern Florida competed in the FCSAA 2013 season as Brevard Community College, the name change becoming effective on July 1. The Titans finished 11-13 in the Southern Conference and 25-23-1 overall.

The Titans advanced to the conference tournament for the first time since 2009, losing to eventual FCSAA/Region 8 champion and NJCAA Division I runner-up Palm Beach State in three games.

Gilmore, a right hander from Orlando, FL, and Longwood Lyman High, was tied for fifth in saves with seven; ranked eighth in earned run average at 1.71 and was tied for 12th in victories with six.

Gilmore also was the conference Fireman (relief pitcher) of the Year.

Hering, a righty from Viera, FL, and Viera High, ranked eighth in strikeouts with 71 and was 12th in earned run average at 2.10.

Sophomores Aaron Miller (Orlando, FL and Colonial High) was 34th in earned run average at 3.22 and Taylor Brookes (Orlando, FL and Deltona High) tied for 46th at 3.83.

Sophomore Ashton Fronsoe (Stuart, FL and Martin County High) tied for 30th in strikeouts with 49 while Miller tied for 44th with 39.

Brookes and Miller were among pitchers tied for 32nd in victories with four.

Freshman Jon Piriz (Miami, FL, and Orlando Bishop Moore High) tied for 10th with three saves while sophomore James Baggs (Stuart, FL and South Fork High), freshman Jordan Lindsay (Tampa, FL and Shorecrest Prep), and Miller were among pitchers tied for 25th with one.

Dennis (Rockledge, FL and Rockledge High) ranked 21st in batting average at .357 while classmate T.J. Glessner (Clearwater, FL and Osceola High) ranked 28th at .342.

King (Orlando, FL and Lake Brantley High) tied for eighth with five home runs while Dennis tied for 22nd with three. Harris (Melbourne, FL and Melbourne High) tied for 39th with two.

Harris tied for 18th in runs batted in with 34 while King tied for 20th with 33.

Glessner tied for 17th with 18 stolen bases while Dennis tied for 47th with 10. Dennis was 32nd in on base percentage at .421 while Glessner was 48th at .406.

Dennis was 14th in slugging percentage at .510.

Defensively freshman centerfielder Chris Torres (Tampa, FL and Gaither High) was 32nd in fielding percentage at .986 while freshman catcher Austin Leeney was 44th at .983. Torres had one error in 74 chances with 70 put outs and three assists. Leeney had five errors in 295 chances with 263 putouts and 27 assists.

Dennis received conference first-team honors while Glessner, Harris and Hering were second-team picks.
