BCC Reaches Title Game With Dramatic 3-2 Victory

April 20, 2013 - Brevard Community College won Saturday's second game of its best-of-three series with Palm Beach State in the bottom of the 10th inning as David King singled in Chris Dennis with two outs for a 3-2 victory.

The victory in Lake Worth set up Saturday's 3:30 game to determine the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference's second representative to the state tournament.

Regular-season champion Miami Dade received an automatic bid.

Dennis singled and advanced to second on T.J. Glessner's sacrifice bunt. Matt Harris, whose eighth-inning home run gave BCC a 2-1 lead, was intentionally walked bringing King to the plate.

King laced his single to left-center field capping 10 innings of high drama that saw BCC escape nerve-jangling jams in both the ninth and 10th innings, giving up just one run in the process.

Chris Gilmore, who relieved BCC starter Kenton Hering in the ninth with the score tied 2-2 got the win.

Hering did not allow a run until the sixth inning, tying the game at 1-1 after BCC scored in the third.

BCC, which managed just five hits in Friday's 9-1 loss, responded with 10 hits in Saturday's opener. Harris had three hits, King had three and Dennis and Roman Restrepo had two each.

BCC played errorless ball until the ninth when it committed two. But its defense came through in the 10th when Glessner made a long run to track down a deep fly ball to left that if it had fallen could have scored two Palm Beach runs.
