BCC Wins Conference Tournament Opener, 5-3

April 19, 2013 - BCC advanced to the title round of the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference tournament on Friday by defeating Broward College 5-3.

The victory moved BCC into a best-of-three series with host Palm Beach State for the right to be the conference's second representative in the state tournament. Conference champion Miami Dade received an automatic bid.

Broward led 3-0 after an inning and a half but BCC chipped away with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings for a 3-3 tie.

T.J. Glessner then hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh for the winning margin.

Jon Piriz, who relieved starter Taylor Brookes in the seventh inning got the win for BCC.

Broward outhit BCC 8-6. Also, BCC pitchers allowed eight walks but Broward could not take advantage.

Chris Torres collected two hits for BCC, which also was successful on three sacrifice bunts by Glessner, Chris Dennis and Morgan Harris. Harris also had a key bunt single in the seventh and came around to score with Torres who also scored in the fifth.

The victory was the sixth for BCC in seven meetings with Broward this season.
