BCC Ready for Friday's Conference Tournament Opening Game

April 17, 2013 - Sophomore right-hander Ashton Fronsoe will be the starting pitcher on Friday as Brevard Community College plays Broward College in the first round of the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference tournament in Lake Worth.

BCC and Broward play at 4 p.m. with the winner playing tournament host Palm Beach State College at 7 p.m. in the first of a best-of-three series to determine the conference's second entrant to the state tournament.

The second game between the BCC-Broward winner and Palm Beach will be played at noon on Saturday. The tournament is being played on Palm Beach State's Lake Worth campus on S. Congress Avenue just west of Interstate 95.

Miami Dade College won the conference regular-season title to secure an automatic bid to the May 10-14 state tournament in Lakeland.

The conference tournament appearance is BCC's first since the 2009 season under then-head coach Ernie Rosseau.

BCC beat Broward in five of six games this season but lost to Palm Beach State four times in six meetings. BCC beat Palm Beach State 2-1 in Wednesday night's regular-season finale at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus.

James Baggs was the winning pitcher. Miguel Frias hit a bases-loaded single in the eighth inning for the winning run. BCC's Chris Dennis went 2-for-4 with a ground-rule double.

BCC finished the regular season at 11-13 in conference and 23-21-1 overall. Palm Beach fell to 13-11 and 32-17.
