Missed Opportunities Doom BCC in 7-6 Loss to Indian River State

March 16, 2013 - Indian River State College made the most of its opportunities, Brevard Community College didn't and Indian River escaped with a 7-6 baseball victory on Saturday night at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus.

The defeat dropped BCC to 4-6 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference and 14-14-1 overall while Indian River improved to 3-7 in the conference and 12-15 overall.

Saturday was Indian River's first victory over BCC in four meetings this season.

BCC outhit Indian River 13-7 but BCC stranded 11 runners to just five for Indian River.

BCC did rally from a 5-0 third inning deficit to tie the game at 5-5 in the fourth, the key hit being T.J. Glessner's three-run inside-the-park home run. But Indian River pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth on four singles for a 7-5 lead.

Chris Dennis' single scored Morgan Harris to get BCC to within 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth but Titans couldn't score again, stranding five runners over the last three innings.

Chad Searcy went 4-for-5 for BCC while Glessner went 3-for-4. Chayce Hubbard took the loss for the Titans.

BCC steps outside the conference for its next two games, hosting Hillsborough Community College at 7 p.m. Monday and Team Canada at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a game that was moved up one day.

Admission to BCC home games is free.

The Titans resume conference play on Friday and Saturday at Broward College.
