BCC Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split

February 16, 2013 - Brevard Community College's baseball team split a home field doubleheader with Central Florid Community College on Saturday on the Melbourne Campus, losing 4-1 and winning 1-0.

BCC is 6-6-1. Central Florida is 8-7.

Central Florida outhit BCC 7-5 in the first game. Matt Harris went 2-for-4 for BCC. Chris Gilmore was the losing pitcher.

"The game was tied 1-1 in the seventh inning," BCC head coach Jeff Tam said. "The defense was solid. We need to be more selective an have a better approach offensively.

"We had plenty of opportunities to break open the game. We made some poor pitches at the end."

Aaron Miller was the winning pitcher in the second game and John Piriz recorded the save. BCC outhit Central Florida 8-6 as Roman Restrepo went 2-for-3 and drove in the game's only run. Chris Dennis also went 2-for-3 including a double.

"Great defense combined with great pitching," Tam said. "It was a well played game. When the offense is sputtering that is exactly what we need to do to win a game.

"The kids bounced back well after a tough loss."

BCC's next game is at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home at Bruce Bochy Field against Community College of Baltimore County. Admission is free.
