Polk Blanks BCC 5-0

February 15, 2013 - Brevard Community College's baseball team gave and Polk State College gladly accepted leaving Bruce Bochy Field with a 5-0 victory on Friday.

The loss was the second straight home shutout for BCC, which dropped to 5-5-1 on the season, and could be traced to two sloppy innings: the first and the ninth.

Polk took advantage of a walk, an error, a hit batsman and two hits to score two runs in the first and an error, a wild pitch, a passed ball, a hit batsman and three hits to score three times in the ninth.

Polk had nine hits off four BCC pitchers. Starter Danny Dixon took the loss.

Meanwhile BCC batters struck out 10 times while managing seven hits and leaving the bases loaded twice. Chris Dennis had two singles for BCC.

"I'm not sure what the deal is at home right now," BCC head coach Jeff Tam said. "We're definitely playing a heck of a lot better on the road.."

BCC has lost four times at home.

"We need to make some serious adjustments at the plate," Tam said. "It seems like we're locked into just one mode. We're not making the adjustments necessary to even move the ball."

Tam didn't reserve his criticism for his offense.

"I think we are pitching absolutely below average right now," he said. "We've based this team on pitching and defense and they have not come through yet. We are not pitching well at all.

"I'm challenging them right now."

The victory for Polk, ranked No. 1 in the state and the defending Florida College System Activities Association champion, avenged an 8-6 home loss to BCC on Tuesday and raised the Eagles record to 11-2.

BCC gets an opportunity to turn things around on Saturday, hosting Central Florida Community College for a doubleheader beginning at noon. Admission is free.

BCC also hosts the Community College of Baltimore College at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
