BCC Baseball Team Hosts Daytona State College on Wednesday
February 5, 2013 - Brevard Community College's baseball team heads into Wednesday's home game against Daytona State College with a 3-3 record, rebounding after getting swept in its season-opening doubleheader.
The first pitch is 4 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus. Sophomore left-hander Danny Dixon will be the starting pitcher for BCC.
"We started slowly," BCC head coach Jeff Tam said of his team's season to date. "But our bats have responded and our pitchers are beginning to find their groove."
BCC has scored 25 runs in its three victories while allowing 11. Its third loss was a 2-0 shutout at Central Florida Community College.
So while BCC is only six games into a 48-game schedule Tam is not attributing the early struggles to early-season inexperience.
"We had a fall season and a full pre-season to prepare, the same as all the other teams," he said. "Our new players have to adjust and they are. Our sophomores are being re-introduced to college baseball and the reality that they have to be at their best on every single pitch. We'll come around."
Sophomore designated hitter David King and classmate and shortstop Chris Dennis have been swinging big bats for BCC.
King was 8-for-18 for four runs batted in and a home run last week while Dennis was 7-for-16 with five runs batted in including two on a ground-rule double for the winning margin in Saturday's 7-5 victory at Central Florida Community College.
Pitching wise the victories last week went to Aaron Miller, Taylor Brookes and Kenton Hering.
Admission to BCC home games is free.
