Coach Soto played two years at Indian River Community College (1984-1985) and two years at UCF (1986-87) where he hit 400 and set records for home runs and runs batted in during the 1987 season. He still holds the career on base percentage record at UCF.
After graduation Soto played two years in the Baltimore Oriole system and later he became a minor league coach with the Orioles and the Cleveland Indians.
From 1991 to 1996, he managed the Homestead Sports Complex where team USA Baseball held its tryouts and in 1996 moved to Brevard County to work at the then-Florida Marlins complex in Viera.
He has been teaching at Melbourne High School since 1999 where he coached baseball and softball. Coach Soto also coached one year at Florida Tech before deciding to pursue a master's degree in Educational Leadership.
