How to Apply

The Veterinary Technology Program is a two-year Associate in Science Degree Program with classes beginning in January. A 3½  year program is also available upon request with the same course requirements. Applicants are evaluated for admission based upon the Admission criteria and the number of "points" obtained. The point system is explained on the website under Selection Criteria. Applicants MUST satisfy all program entrance requirements, including minimum GPA and volunteer animal experience hours. Extra points towards the admission process may be obtained by taking recommended courses prior to admission, extra work or volunteer experience in the animal field, scores on the required pre-admission test, and prior completion of a college degree. Application to the Veterinary Technology Program requires completion, submission and program receipt of the items explained below before the application due date of September 15.

Complete EFSC Application

Complete the application for admission to Eastern Florida State College prior to program application deadline. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee for admission that must be submitted at the time of application to the college. This application is available on any of the campuses or it's easiest to apply online.

NOTE: You must only apply to EFSC for general admission if you are not currently enrolled with the College. If you’re a returning/readmit student who applied to EFSC one or more years ago and have not completed a course in the past year, you must re-apply and can do so online and will not be charged the general EFSC application fee.


Submit Transcripts

Transcripts: ALL OFFICIAL college and/or high school transcripts or GED scores must be sent to:

Transfer students (new to EFSC) - Request all previous attended colleges to send a final, official copy of college transcripts to the EFSC Admission's Office. These transcripts must be received and evaluated by the application deadline. Please note that EFSC will not evaluate transcripts if courses are still in progress at your previous institution. Additionally, if you are listed as "non-degree seeking" at EFSC, request the Admissions office to indicate your minor as the program you are applying for so that transcripts will be evaluated accordingly. Points will not be awarded for courses that do not reflect on your unofficial transcript by the application deadline.

International students: If you attended high school and/or college in a country other than the United States, when you submit your transcripts you must speak to the International Student Service Advisor to determine any further steps that must be taken to determine your grade point average and transfer credits.

Complete Online Health Science Application

Complete the online Health Sciences Application for Veterinary Technology. A $25 payment is due to the cashier's office by the application deadline. This fee is non-refundable.

Take Pre-Admission Test:  TEAS Test

The TEAS test version 5.0 is the required, pre-admission exam for applicants wishing to enter the Veterinary Technology program. A testing fee will be charged by Eastern Florida State College. Please see the TEAS TESTING page for information and registration.

Submit Work Experience Form

All applicants must submit the required Veterinary Technology Observation/Volunteer/Work Experience Forms. These forms confirm completion of a minimum 40 hours of observation, volunteer and/or work experience under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or a certified veterinary technician. A minimum 20 hours must be in a veterinary clinical setting AND 20 hours in a humane society/ shelter/rescue setting. The experience must have been completed by the application deadline (September 15). Applicants MUST submit one form for each setting: Veterinary Clinical setting and Humane Society / Shelter setting. Use the Veterinary Technology Experience Form included on this website. You may make copies of the original form if you have experience at more than one site.


Note: This change in mandatory hours is effective starting with the January 2013 program.

Submit Essay

All applicants must submit an essay titled "Veterinary Technicians: What are they and what role do they play on the Veterinary Team?" This essay must be 300 words and handwritten.

Submit Letters of Reference

Applicant must submit two letters of reference, preferably from a veterinary health professional.

Post-Acceptance Background Check

All applicants must submit to a mandatory background check upon acceptance into the program and before the start of classes - AFTER acceptance in the program.

Accepted students will be required to sign a waiver stating that they have not been convicted of a felony for controlled drugs.

Section 1301.76 the DEA states:

(a) The registrant shall not employ, as an agent or employee who has access to controlled substances, any person who has been convicted of a felony offense relating to controlled substances or who, at any time, had an application for registration with the DEA denied, had a DEA registration revoked or has surrendered a DEA registration for cause. For purposes of this subsection, the term "for cause" means a surrender in lieu of, or as a consequence of, any federal or state administrative, civil or criminal action resulting from an investigation of the individual's handling of controlled substances.
