Online Writing Lab
Writing tutors review submitted papers, scholarship essays and job applications Monday through Thursday until 3 PM. Anything submitted after 3 PM Thursday is reviewed the following Monday. Turn-around time is usually 24 hours or less.
Tutoring is offered online live, by appointment, or through submissions for math, science, Spanish, nursing, reading and writing subjects. Tutors available 24/7 for EFSC students. Log in using your student ID number as your USERNAME and birth date.
Learning Lab Coordinator
Earned her master degree in Creative Studies at Buffalo State College, earned her Bachelor's in Creative Writing at SUNY Plattsburgh, and earned her A.S in Retail Management at North Country Community College. Her most delightful moments are when she helps a person understand something that they were confused about. Her hobbies include, but are not limited to: carving, playing guitar and ukulele, singing, biking, writing and tickling the grand babies.
Learning Specialist / Assistant
Katie Bumsted has earned her A.A. at EFSC. She is currently attending UCF for her Bachelor's degree in psychology. She enjoys helping others and gaining knowledge about new things every day. Katie's hobbies include: playing flute, attending music festivals, camping, exploring new music, and wishing she could have every dog in the world.
Learning Specialist / Assistant
Jade is currently attending EFSC for her Bachelors of Applied Science in Organizational Management. She's the mother of 2 young children, works full-time, and attends classes to further her career development. All this keeps her busy! Working in the Learning Lab allows her to grow and support students in achieving their academic goals. In her free time, Jade loves spending the day on the river with her family and friends.
Learning Specialist / Communication Tutor
Helen Badger has taught composition on the junior and senior high school levels. Helen also has earned National Tutoring Association certifications. Helen works to help students improve their writing in a wide variety of EFSC courses. Beyond that, she has some great ideas for students who are writing scholarship essays and resumes. Helen enjoys cooking treats for her family, admiring clever ideas from home reconstruction shows and reading classic mysteries.
Learning Specialist / Math Tutor
Roger Carter earned his degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and spent 20+ years in the Semiconductor field. As tutor in the Math Lab, he enjoys helping the students master the problems they encounter with their various math courses. Roger joined the staff in November 2013.
Learning Specialist / Science & Math Tutor
Zack has been tutoring since High School through the National Honor Society. Since graduating from UCF with a degree in biotechnology, Zach enjoys tutoring in the Palm Bay Learning Lab. He has worked as a physical chemist at Sinmat and has solid knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, and up to Calculus II. Eager to help, you can find him in the main room of the Learning Lab. He enjoys reading and watching Chinese cartoons and tackling complicated math puzzles. While Graphite is something he hates using, he enjoys helping students in science and math. Zack suggests, "Don't let your science problems spill over, come to the Learning Lab for help!"
Learning Specialist / Communications Tutor
Gary earned his A.A. degree with an emphasis on Journalism and Communications from BCC, now EFSC. As editor of the student newspaper, The Capsule, Gary received multiple awards for excellence. He earned a B.S. degree in Telecommunication Production from UF. He worked for both the University’s television station, WUFT, and the local cable television provider. He worked for many years in television production, multi-media presentation technology, and as a Senior Instructional Assistant for the Communications department at Valencia College. All in all, Gary prefers working with students on improving their writing.
Learning Specialist / VPI Tutor
Graduate BA Chemist, ACS Certified Magna Cum Laude, continuing education includes graduate level coursework at University of Maryland, and FIT. He has 30 years' experience in Environmental Consulting Engineering Private Practice and Environmental, Health and Industrial Safety. Bill founded a Temporary Employment firm specializing in Engineers and Technical Professionals which operated in four different states. Other experiences include Development Chemist for Hysol, a semi-conductor molding compound company, and Research Chemist for the U.S. Navy. He's named as Primary Inventor on two U.S. Patents and has authored 10 open literature technical publications.
