Dance is for everyone

The Performing and Visual Arts Department offers a dance arts university parallel Associate in Arts Degree — designed to prepare students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in dance. Plus the program also welcomes students who want to continue their dance training for personal enjoyment and people who wish to study dance for the first time. Course are taught on the Cocoa and Melbourne campuses.

Skills developed through studying dance are an asset in careers both inside and outside the field. Career opportunities for the dance parallel major include teacher in a college, elementary or high school, dance studio owner, historian, artistic director or ballet mistress/master of a dance company, dance therapist, dance critic, dance photographer/artist, dance notation (labanation), professional performer and/or choreographer for dance companies, theater, movies or television.

A minimum 2.0 GPA must be maintained in all general education classes and dance classes. Transfer to an upper level program is contingent upon the requirements of each particular four-year college or university.
